The MacBook itself gets really, really hot. My charger gets quite warm, but I don't think it's gotten to the point where it'll hurt me (as the MacBook does). Now that you mention it, it DOES smell like a heated curling iron, but I have to get close to it in order to smell it. (I'm usually as far away from it as the cord allows.)
