[Private to: Snape, Ruby, Paddy, the Marquis de Sade, Aleera]
You who have graduated and returned. I would like to hear about your experience of graduation.

[Private to Martha]
I should like access to the laboratory tomorrow, for a four-hour block if such a span is available.

the rani needs a lab, the rani is curious

What, precisely, do you wish to know?

What happened after your graduation, and why did you choose to return?

I went home. There was no place for me.

Did you intend to return here, or did you make that decision once you had gone home?

Where you went and why you decided to return.

I went home. I decided to come back for two reasons - my life would have dragged me right back into the shit I didn't want to get involved in again. I was a career criminal. It's kinda difficult to pretend old enemies, family histories, expectations'll just go away with will, y'know.

So I had to leave my fucking family one way or another. I figured coming back here would give me better chance to fix things than just doing nothing wrong.

So you originally had no intention of returning, then.

Were you given options when you graduated? Of where you might have gone next?

I am an open book, mademoiselle.

When you graduated, what choices were you given? And why did you decide to remain here as a warden?

An array of choices were offered me. I could have returned to a point in my life to perhaps try again. I could have been restored to life at another time after me and simply taken a new name, or I could have even settled in another place entirely, or simply gone on and rested.

I chose to remain because either way, when I died originally I had lived a full life, and when you have been here as long as I have, or longer, choosing to return to the mundane seems somewhat unwise. It's not at all unsound to select productivity as the mode of your afterlife, now is it? ...That aside, there were people here that I was not yet ready to leave behind.

I see.

As you may have surmised, my warden believes I am close to meeting the terms of my graduation. And so I am reviewing my options. A complete sample would include those who chose not to remain, but clearly that group is not available for survey.

Why was the "mundane world", as you put it, so unappealing?

Of course. If T'Pol or another warden isn't going to be in there, I'll be sure to make the time so you can get the time in the lab.

Very well. I intend to complete some genome mapping and diagnostics, in part with regard to the death toll project. If further time is needed, I will let you know.

Martha, I wondered if you might join me in the lab at some point, at your convenience.

I went back to my home world, like I know a few other graduates have done. I'm some others were probably given a choice of some kind of afterlife, but there's not an afterlife for demons in my world. So I went home, found a relatively safe place from anyone who would hunt me and I took some time off for myself. As much as I used to hate it here, this is a job I think I'll like doing. I've been someone's guide before and I liked it. The difference then was I lead them to their destruction, not their restoration. It wasn't what I wanted. This is what I wanted all along, I just couldn't see it, or I didn't want to.

Do you think you will be good at this business of being a warden? And if so, why?
