I actually really love the video. :)

I always loved that Billy was the one who suggested to Ernie that Tanya could sing, and I think it fits with what you said in the "It Came From Angel Grove" post about Billy's role in her becoming a Ranger. For all that Tanya is now a strong, independent woman, for her first few moments in Angel Grove she was a little girl who'd been sent to a strange place where Billy was the only responsible adult. I like the idea that he's looking out for her.

I, too, really like the moment where Tommy gestures for Tanya to keep singing while the rest of them go off to fight.

It's so 90stastic, it's amazing. Yet ridiculous.

Billy is totally the only responsible adult on the team, and he is in the mentor role this season! And I like to think that he was looking out for Tanya, trying to give her a positive experience as a Ranger. (Possibly slightly out of guilt for him not being a Ranger anymore.)

It is such a great moment, and it really made me like Tommy for once. :D

The music video is the cutest thing ever.
And of course Steve Cardenas gets to show off a little, but a part of me likes to think that Billy taught Rocky how to backflip.

Tanya tells her friends that she figured out what was really important - them. And school. And being a Ranger. But of course, she can sing any time. Kim was doing something that was way more dependent on age.

This is very true - I don't think Kim suffers in comparison at all for that reason. Plus, no random chick dressed in her color has shown up yet, so obviously it's not time to give up her morpher yet;)

While I'll always wish that Adam/Tanya receive the focus and narrative definition that TomKat 1.0 did, a part of me loves that they are just so cute and awesome and drama-free without making a big deal.

Aww...Adam/Tanya. I like the idea of showing off their musical talents. Johnny Yong Bosch actually has a band. And his voice is so sexy that Japanese girls apparently learn English just to listen to it.

The show loves to show off the actors' talents. For JDF, this is easy. Just get him in a fight scene.

I think Ernie knows who the rangers are, so he gives them free food because he figures they have a higher metabolism.

What is with it with all these Jewish villains? Zedd, Sprocket? Hell, Finster makes golems.

I'm guessing Tommy's perception in this episode is how they got the idea that he was a genius. Then again, the writers' explanation for "Forever Red" involves Tommy basically rebuilding the Morphin Grid. Ascended fanboys, annoying.

Eyeshine is pretty great.

The Jewish bar mitzvah stuff was only our commentary since both the mods are Jewish, and we found it amusing.

it turns out that before this, the Youth Center was closed on the weekends

FALSE. In "Day of the Dumpster," the voice on the radio during the opening scene says that it's Saturday.

PROPOSED TIMELINE:

DotD: The Youth Center is open on weekends normally.
In the time between DotD and this episode: The rangers pay for food all of like two times. Ernie can no longer afford to keep the Youth Center open on weekends.
Sometime close to this episode: Ernie gets himself a grant from the AG government for providing essential services to the Power Rangers
Subsequently: OPEN ON WEEKENDS AGAIN

But that was Saturday during the day, not Saturday nights! So it could still be a change.

Looking at it, I could buy them missing the Cog in the background. It was a silvery shiny thing moving against a silvery shiny streamer background. That still raises the question of why Tommy was able to spot it on his first go around though.

Hmm, possible!

He just wasn't paying attention to Tanya, I guess. :(
