Other than that ONE feather, what did Ryan really do to keep Mariner Bay from getting damaged and to keep people from being hurt by the feathers? Because it sure sounded like Captain Mitchell was giving him all the credit, and I'd say a lot of credit ought to go to the rescue workers.
