Two New Family Members

It has been so long that I've almost forgotten how to do this. We lost a cat, Midnight, last September to breast cancer, and our beautiful horse, Ginger, who was the model for the chestnut mare in The Courier. Both losses were very sad and the last thing I needed at the time ( Read more... )

Looks like two lovely (and strangely similarly decorated)animals to care for. It's funny how that happens. We lost a lovely old gray cat of 17+ years a number of years ago and then almost accidentally I inherited a gorgeous and equally friendly and personable Himalayan kitty who we love as much. Of course new additions to the family never replace the beloved companions you had, but hopefully will brighten your lives in their own unique ways.

You noticed the coincidental color scheme. I tend to go through periods where most of my cats are in the same color family because they are related, but this is the first time the horse has matched. I'm in my black and white period now, although Schrodinger is no relation to Gibson, who is no relation to Cora, Skunk, and Possum, who are no relation to Tevildo. Strange coincidence.

The first horse I ever rode and fell from was a black and white Welsh pony when I was ten. I hope not to fall from Blue, but we may have an alpha and an omega situation here.

They're both so beautful. I'm so sorry about the lost loves, though. It's heartbreaking every time.

It always hurts, but now I think that a loss means they are making way for another rescue animal who will need me. I just have to be patient and keep my eyes open.

I've been lurking, just awfully busy. How is Smokie? Midnight was black like your girl and very attached to me, and I thought of you when I lost her.

Smokey is very well, thank you. We went through a bit of a wobble in March and again in May when she got some form of cat cystitis. I was very worried, but the vet seemed to be able to treat her just fine and she's on some form of medication which should help her not get it in future.

I love her to bits, I don't know what I'd do without her, and she is as you say very attached to me.
