The last time I met him, at the last but one Bradford Eastercon, he'd given up. Not completely, you understand, he'd just fallen onto the wagon. "It's easy,"he said. "You find yourself not having one pint, then not having another and before you know it you're hardly drinking at all."

It wasn't a hardcore position however. He kindly let me buy him a pint. What a guy.
