On top of the world

Thanks to daveon, who has a membership in the Columbia Tower Club, I finally made it to the top of the Columbia Center, fondly known locally as Selig's Phallus, since it was built by a man by the name of Martin Selig. At 76 stories it's the tallest building in Seattle, and it was completed in January 1985, pretty much exactly a year after I moved here. ( Read more... )

There's a public viewing "observatory" on top of the Columbia Center, and I'm not sure why I've never gone there before. The views really are amazing.

Because of the location of the building in relation to the flight path to some of the local airfields, they apparently had to be VERY VERY clear about being under 1,000 feet.

Speaking of which, it was a little bit unnerving to see on the Wikipedia page that the Columbia Center was one of the targets the 9/11 terrorists considered.
