It took me at least two years to read this book, partly because it's a collection of short pieces, so it was very easy to dip in now and then rather than just plow through it. I'm glad I brought it to your attention. I remain of the opinion that this book should have been published many years earlier when it would have stood Russ up alongside Damon Knight and James-Blish-as-William-Atheling as a colossus of SF criticism, but better late than never.

Yeah, it probably would have had more of an impact if it had come out in the early '80s.

And many thanks for your review. I'm not sure I would have heard about the book otherwise.
