The latest beer session

I got together with carl and Scott last Sunday to drink beer -- our first session of the year. We actually started off at the Big Time brewpub, where Scott finally got to taste the Saison Grisette, which is a very good saison that I've been drinking a lot of lately. Because of that I actually opted for the cask-conditioned Dark Days Black IPA, ( Read more... )

Do you save the bottles or labels? They're very pretty.

How difficult is it to transport beer? Would it be just a carry on? I'm going to Oak Park, IL, in March, and could bring back a few bottles of something from there if you want.

I recognized New Glarus because they're big in Madison.

The main problem with transporting beer is the weight. I ended up bringing back more than I had intended to (probably inevitably), but even then it was only three big bottles and two small ones. I stuck the two small bottles in my boots in my bag, to protect them. The three big ones I had in these plastic nets that were given to me in Belgium to keep the bottles from banging against each other. Then I just buried them in clothes.

I'd have to think about what I'd want you to bring back, and I'd feel kind of bad about asking a non-beer-drinker to act as a beer mule. I'm not familiar with the Midwest beer scene, although Scott has provided bottles from various breweries that I really liked, including Jolly Pumpkin, which is in Michigan.

I don't collect the bottles for the labels, although I've thought about it. Some of them really are cool. But I've got too much clutter in my room as it is.
