I'd work to be the best ball player ever to get out of the Dominican Republic.

There's apparently a movie called Sugar that's just coming out that's about the exploitation of young guys from the DR who are hoping for such a salvation. But yeah, I was struck by how many schoolyards we saw down there where young boys were playing "baseball" with what looked to be sticks and rocks, which was probably all the equipment they could afford.

Sport in all its forms is a popular way to escape poverty all around the world. Given that I suppose it will come as no suprise to you that in sports such as soccer there is a great deal of exploitatin of teenage players from poor nations.

Yes, but what about ghoodminton or knurdling? We have to bear the responsibility for the exploitation there.

That's a good question about the minor leagues, and a good guess as to the answer. Although then again, don't a lot of college players end up in the minor leagues too? I guess the question is actually how many college players end up getting drafted and signed. Maybe not very many.

I'm also kind of curious who the one Dutch player is. Any idea? I've laughed at the idea of the Dutch team in the WBC, but maybe baseball is more popular there than I thought.
