Everyone Deserves Music

I've been listening to this 2003 album by Michael Franti and Spearhead, which I got for my birthday this year. Really like the title track and was reduced to tears yesterday by "Love, Why Did You Go Away?" Anti-war folks might like "Bomb the World", with its refrain, "We can bomb the world to pieces, but we can't bomb the world into peace." It's ( Read more... )

We saw Michael Franti at Beautiful Days festival in Devon not long after Worldcon. He was fantastic!

Thanks! I've seen at least a half-dozen Spearhead shows, although it's been a few years since the last one. Saw them on my birthday once, and it was one of my all-time favorite birthdays. "Raise your hands in the air/I wanna see all your armpit hair!"

Someone (perhaps alces2) recently mentioned listening to a live recording of the Dead Kennedys' "California Uber Alles", which reminded me of the excellent cover Franti did with Disposable Heroes of Hiphoperisy. "Yo, I'm your governor, Pete Wilson/The baddest governor to ever take a mike and go 'Boom!'" Ha! Somebody ought to do a new version featuring the Gubenator.
