It was classic privilege at work. Because of course it's black peoples' job to change racist whites' perceptions of them. Why should the person who commented have to try to see things differently or avoid stereotyping? That isn't her place.

I always love the phrase "x made me racist!" Because I'm sure you were so totally non-racist before. You had absolutely nothing to do with becoming racist yourself. That's why something like this could make you racist, because you were such a shining example of anti-racism before!
