I went to see Prince Caspian tonight.  Major SPOILERS and long review/rant under the cut.

I really liked the movie.  I'll have to see it again, but overall I thought it was a very good movie.  Perhaps even great.  However, I'm not so sure about its status as an adaptation of a book.  It's a much better adaptation than The Two Towers, which is a ( Read more... )

*sigh* Unfortunately yes, it often is like that. It's just that usually it doesn't bother me quite as much. I'm not a full-blown purist. Still, it's a good movie on its own.

Thanks for the review! It's kind of what I expected, that the film would be good in itself, but as an adaptation of the book.....not so good.

I don't think I'll be seeing it at the cinema, but I'll definitely watch it when it comes on the UK movie channels. :)

Well, my opinion of it probably came off as a little more negative than it actually is. There's still a lot of stuff that stays close to the books. For example, there are way more lines taken from the book than in LWW, and both Lucy and Edmund are almost exactly as they are in the book. In fact, I felt that most of the characters were handled very well, and most of the themes from the book are there as well. It's a far, far better adaptation than TTT, anyway.

Oh, I'd still recommend seeing it on the big screen if you can. The visuals and sounds during some parts almost demand it. I really would have liked to see this one in digital projection, but unfortunately the nearest DLP theater is busy showing Speed Racer. :(

I pretty much felt the same way! Mainly with the romance. WHY did they feel the need to add it in? The book would do fine without it. Also, I agree about the song at the end. it was so out of place -- and it took me by surprise.

This movie was really pushing the PG rating. I was in a theater with a LOT of little kids. So many of them started crying during the battle scenes.

But despite these things, I liked it in the end. :)

I know. :( I don't think it would bother me as much, if it weren't for what happens in VotDT. I really hope this doesn't result in some sort of shipper conflict.

The audience at the showing I went to was fantastic. Not too many little kids, though there were a lot of teenagers, and there was very little fussing. The crowd was very responsive, though; lots of energy, with lots of cheering at the opening title, the battle, and when Aslan showed up (I admit, I cheered then too). There was also lots of saluting the screen with plastic weaponry whenever someone charged during the battles. It was a lot of fun.

Just got back from the movie a few hours ago and I absolutely love it!

For the most part. Of course, it wasn't completely the same as the book, but I liked the changes.

And I totally agree about Susan and Caspian. I don't think I understand the point in that, besides the fact that in almost all movies these days, there has to be romance of some sort. *rolls eyes* But I admit I was glad that she kissed Caspian and not the weird kid. I liked how "Phyllis" dealt with him. lol

I know...*shudder* Seriously, what's wrong with a movie not having romance? *shakes fist at Hollywood*
