The ONLY explanation I can see, other than someone in the room not wanting YOU around, no matter what character you're going to play, is that the people in question are playing some sort of exclusive and private storyline and don't want any random people interfering in it.

HOWEVER, if said people don't want random people interfering in their big and bad special storyline, there's a nifty little invention called PRIVATE ROOMS. That's one of the things PRs were specifically designed for, after all. Said storyline should NOT be played in a PUBLIC ROOM where ANYONE can wander in and out if the people involved don't want anyone to interfere in it.

Booting someone from a room should ONLY be reserved for someone who's a bonifide room disruptor (KMANOWAR comes immediately to mind). People should NOT be booted from public rooms merely because the Room Owner and/or people in the room happen to have a grudge about or discriminate against the player that ends up being booted for no legitimate reason.

Long story short, you're probably not too far off about one reason. The other? I like the guy just fine, but a bigger micromanager I've nevernever met.
