Personally... my LJ is friends-locked because I don't consider it as 'saying something on the fucking internet' as you so eloquently put it. I'm typing something about my life for my friends to read. If I can't really trust them to not be like "OMG JESSI POSTED THIS IN HER LJ" - well, chances are they're not on my friends list and that's why its locked in the first place *Shrug*
