You've never seen a bat? They're so cute and terrifying! We see the little brown bats at night sometimes in the warmer months, but I've seen a couple wlid ones up close in proper lighting (obviously) and lots of tiny vampire bats and big ol' fruit bats at the zoo.
My parents say there used to be bats in the area, we even had a little bat-house in the backyard when I was little. But they've been gone for a long time. Probably since Orlando started developing.
I think technically you're not supposed to have bats as pets, but if they were being rehabilitated from injuries in the wild that would be a WHOLE other story... *looks innocent*
I KNOW. Whenever we go into the nocturnal house at the zoo I love stopping to look at the widdle vampire bats with their ears all twitching about and their pointy widdle faces and their teeny-tiny fangs, and then later we get to the flying foxes and they're so big and lovable! Like leathery-wingéd fuzzy toys! ♥ *gives the exclamation points a workout*
Haven't you ever been to a zoo? They probably won't have such common things as little brown bats, but vampire bats are way cuter than any blood-sucker should be.
I'd only be worried about rabies if a bat were actually flying AT ME and not blatantly going in circles and back and forth trying to find a way out to safety.
*loves nature as long as it's not making her itchy*
Um... I've only been to the zoo twice in my life, and both times I was so young that I don't really remember much of anything. I don't even know if I saw the bats, I mean, my parents tended to rush us through things like that anyway.
I love nature... but... on a postcard, or with plenty of clean bathrooms and no bugs or dirt.
You are a sad, deprived little man. Go! Observe! Learn! Preferably on a day when the weather's nice but all the munchkins are at school, because then you can move about at your own pace and not be subjected to more annoyance than necessary. And wear good walking shoes, too. It's really interesting, at least to me, because when else are you going to get the chance to see an alligator up close without being in mortal danger?
