The L Word - continues not to suck

Jan 22, 2007 18:03

Watching the L Word I've kind of got used to wading through the 'oh god no' scenes to get to the good ones but, with the last two episodes, there has been very little wading and a lot more pure enjoyment. Shane and Bette have never been my favourites, I like them but they've never quite reached the Alice height of adoration, but they were both ( Read more... )

..but why do the writers seem to want to insist that there's no crossover between straight, gay and bi culture?

Because it wouldn't be TLW if there wasn't at least *one* scene that's not only borderline offensive but has you almost knocking yourself out from rolling your eyes into the back of your head. The idea that lesbians have no idea who Terrell Owens is *because* they're lesbians? Um, maybe they have no idea who he is because they don't like sports.

..the idea of Bette and Helena together is really starting to appeal to me and I don't know why.

Because you can never go wrong with the combination of 'hot + hot= scorching hot'?

As for the episode, I think TPTB have *finally* figured out that the show works best when the characters are interacting with each other. Too bad they had to kill Dana to figure this out.

TLW writers obviously need to spend a little more time on lj because from my friends list alone I can tell that lesbians and sports seem to go together rather frequentyly. Now if this was a group of English people and Americans this would make sense, as we all turn our noses up at American football and those pansies in shoulder pads pretending to play rugby *g*

Because you can never go wrong with the combination of 'hot + hot= scorching hot'?

Ah, it has all become clear.

I think your subject line says it all The L Word - continues not to suck
because, really, that's all you can say about it. It's not great, it's not even really good, but it doesn't suck like it did last season.

Also, I'm totally on board with the wtf? for the segregation of lesbian/gay communities. Even in NYC the majority of my friends were gay men and straight men and women. I can only assume that it's the writers' lameass attempt to inject some drama into the blank stare that is Tina's character without Bette. I mean, who cares? I don't care if she's het or bi or gay, she's just fucking boring!!

btw, I haven't seen this ep yet, so I really can't comment too much. The fact that I'm not at all worried about being spoiled should tell you everything you need to know about how I feel on this subject.

I agree with all of that but I still, for some reason, find myself enjoying the show so far. It could just be relief at it not sucking but I'm actually looking forward to the next episode.

My tuppance worth (though with inflation, it's not as much as it was last week....) is:

I bought L Word Season 1 on DVD when it was in the sales the first time after its release - I bought it because I didn't have access to Living TV and was a) curious and b) eager to encourage the UK distribution/syndication of the show....

I'm also the owner of all 7 seasons of The West Wing...all of which were watched in all nighter marathons within 72 hours of purchase/gift...which tells you something about my personality (the same happened for CSI s1-4 and SVU s1-2, not to mention Bad Girls and SG1 seasons 1-6 ...you're getting the picture? good *g*).

It's two years later....and the L Word Season 1 DVD is still in it's shrink wrap.....

Damn, why can't you edit comments....

Noticed the stray ' in my 'its'-es.... that always bugs me when I catch those after the fact...why can't my fingers behave?

*hangs head in shame*

So you've never seen it? You might find that you really like it once you actually start watching.

I saw the first 5 mins of the first ever ep - I think, if I remember rightly, the first line of dialogue was 'Let's make a baby' or something like that.....

I'll get around to it one day....(which is why I bought the DVD)...

What's so funny about this season is how much I love Bette. But maybe it's not that funny because really the only time I don't like Bette is when she's attached to Tina. I mean, I loved her all angsty and boozing and sleeping with random twinks in S2 thus it shouldn't be surprising how much I'm loving her in S4.

Maybe it's strange because up until this season my favorite thing has consistently been Alice and while I still love Alice best I really fucking love Bette in S4. Her scenes continue to rock every episode. I just reallly don't like the big hipped TA though. I think the best scenes were the Alice/Bette/Phyllis interactions. The scene with Bette telling Alice about the crush and then the subsequent scene where Alice walks in on Bette and Phyllis to take Phyllis out to lunch.

Ahhh, fun. I too didn't like Helena as a secretary. I don't get why they don't have her doing stuff with the social services programs she helped fund with the Peabody Foundation back in S2. Bah. They never pay attentions to their own plots.

I really like how they're making Bette a part of the group, rather than part of a couple within a group, so we're getting to see her more with Alice and the others. I don't like the TA but Bette's reactions to her, for the most part, have been really good.

Bah. They never pay attentions to their own plots.

I know. It's sometimes as if they've never even watched the show. For instance, what happened to Helena's kids? There's not even been a mention but in season three they told us she talks to them ever day.
