Just Wondering: Knitting or Crocheting?

Dec 17, 2018 04:17

Recently, I've been a little curious about these two and I'm considering taking one of them up as a new hobby in 2019. I've looked it up online and seen mixed messages about which one is easier to learn. I know some of you out there know how to knit and/or crochet.

So which is easier to learn for a total newbie?

randomness, help

I've been doing both for over 20 years, and I think it's easier to learn crochet. Also, it's better for fixing mistakes, and faster to complete a project. If you have any other questions about it, pls let me know.

Yeah, I think Casey's right. I'm impatient - I don't have time for things that are nitpicky and take too long :) but even I was able to crochet a large blanket in a relatively short amount of time. I wouldn't even consider knitting. I think they're probably equivalent to the difference between longstitch and needlepoint.

Crochet -- you just have to learn one motion and repeat it again and again. Knitting you need to remember where you are, which needle you used last, etc.

I've done both. I knitted an afghan for myself a long time ago and have crocheted various projects. If you are looking to complete a project in a short amount of time, then crochet will be your better bet. It also doesn't take long in the learning process before you are moving at a good pace with your stitches. It is also a little bit more forgiving with the stitches. Knitting is also nice, but the stitches are small and any type of project will take longer. I enjoyed doing both. Don't do them anymore though. Between them, though, cross-stitch is probably easier to learn. There is also cross-stitch which is nice and easy to do if you are looking to do pretty pictures/wall hangings.

couldn't make heads or tails of crocheting, but knitting came fairly easy once I learned the trick of clamping one needle between my knees.
