It's going to take a couple of posts to get through everything during/post Wai-con this year. To start with I wanted to talk about that pretty damn epic Avatar group that won us the Best Group Skit Award on Saturday. Our secret weapon? Glowy twirly things on strings ( Read more... )

oh man this is awesome! :D

I had so much fun cosplaying with you guys - it was seriously an incredible time and definitely something I'll remember for life. I am so impressed at each and every one of you guys for just being so awesome and doing an amazing job.

and again, I wanted to say it up on stage when we got to go up and accept our medals (-_______-) but a HUGE thanks to you and Risachantag for organising everything and being the ... team leaders (despite everyone knowing that Sokka is the real leader). Without you guys it wouldn't have been as amazing as it was.

So looking forward to this photoshoot - and hopefully redoing our skit (maybe adding back the lines we cut?) with professional filming!

I just checked my email logs, There was the first email "who wants to do it" and I thought "yeah sure, Sokka is who I'd do" but didn't reply. The next day we get an updated list and most of the main characters are taken... except Sokka. It just had to be! I didn't realise then that my reply signed me up for the most fun of my life.

Gotta say, there's pretty much nothing in cosplay like having a really awesome skit to show off. ^_^ We had about the same experience back in 06 with our FFVII skit; this would be the first time since we've gotten to do something that got an even better reaction up on stage. And seriously, organising the group was practically no effort at all - everyone got their costumes done on time, everyone showed up for rehearsal, and everyone looked great. Apart from sansele running late on the day (and even then she made it with a decent cushion of time to spare in the end) it was pretty much a drama-free experience, which is damn good going with a cosplay group of eight people.

So looking forward to this photoshoot - and hopefully redoing our skit (maybe adding back the lines we cut?) with professional filming!

Ahaha, I would not say professional filming, that implies we have an actual budget. =P We're still not sure how we're going to get it to work at all, given the lighting problems (need good light for the spoken parts, low light for the poi, ( ... )

I'm pretty impressed at the drama-free nature of it - Definitely a relief. But with a group of mainly friends it's not that bad. We didn't really have anyone unreliable.
I was certainly concerned in the leadup that I wasn't going to be quite up to scratch (and so didn't do ANY Marth work) but in the end I was *really* happy with my costume and how it turned out.

well yes, by professional, I mean not someone randomly filming it from a random spot in the crowd :P Being able to get close-up shots, multiple angles and multiple takes is going to be awesome.
We can get speaking parts out of the way first when there's a bit of light and do the fight when it's early-evening. Kings Park? The shade may help us in darkening the ambient light a bit. We should probably go somewhere fire-nation-y though. Dunno where! And yes, April sounds good :P

It was meant to be :) So glad it turned out that way too!
