Useless quote from somewhere that I remembered today for some reason or other

...how did people describe the size of hailstones before golf was invented?*

* Not that any of the ones I saw were actually as big as golfballs. I'm just saying, some of them came pretty close.**

** I did not think the weather here knew how to DO that sort of thing. o_o

rl, hypotheticals

XD Well, at least golf was invented a really long time ago!

But the first thing that comes to mind for me is a crabapple. :O

15th century according to Wikipedia. I wonder if the cliche dates back that far

We were suggesting eggs. Maybe bantam eggs if they're not quite full chicken egg sized.

I was wondering with every news article I read whether there was a international standard for hail size.

I thought it was cute when I read "gumnut sized hail" but then I wasn't sure if they meant honkynuts or those little once like Snugglepot and Cuddlepie have as hats...

Anyway.

Maybe there's an official scale. It could go something like, pea-sized, marble-sized, little-gumnut-sized, big-gumnut-sized, golfball-sized. For special occasions you could add tennis-ball-sized and football-sized*.

*But only if the world record is in danger.
