Yay! X3 I'm glad you finally have enough to work with. ♥ Still, I can't wait to see more, and also to find out why Doumeki is so very put out... although I can hazard a decent guess as to why Fai is so upset. Poor thing.

Enough to stop me dithering about it, at least. ^^; There's no big story behind why Doumeki would be a bit put out - he's been awake for that many hours solid so that Watanuki can drag him out to find some mysterious little girl and he doesn't have any hope of understanding why other than 'because Watanuki does weird stuff like that'. There'll be a lot more to be said about Fye in the next chapter or two, though as you say, the basics of it shouldn't be at all hard to guess.

(BTW: if I don't have the next chapter up within about half a week, you have full permission to come bug me about it until I do. It really only needs a little editing before it's done at this point.)

Yea! Very happy to see more of this. I loved Kurogane and Watanuki's talk. And I love how it reinforced the idea that Watanuki is an accepted and trusted member of the group since he is now being asked to take responsibility of Kohane until the feel her out.

I loved Fai's reactions and the hints that they give and look forward to seeing more of that in upcomming chapters.

(Breaks for character backstory are fun too.)

Glad to hear it. It's been so long since I last posted any of this story that I'm nervous that I might've lost a lot of people's interest in the meantime. ^^;

It's always going to be a bit different for poor Watanuki when he goes through so much that he simply can't explain to the others, but it does say an awful lot about how far he's come - pretty much gone full circle from where he started out. And as an aside, it's damn nice to have a character as sensible as Kurogane to work with in this sort of fic - not many other characters would've been able to get all that needed to be said to Watanuki across so nearly easily as him.

Fye's not the only character with a lot of backstory coming up, but suffice to say that throwing a character like Kohane who's fresh from the Complex into the camp is destined to stir a lot of old memories up.

Sorry to take so long with the feedback -- RL kind of got explosively busy.

Anyway, good solid chapter. I wonder if the Complex that was destroyed was the complex Fye lived in? Or if he knew people there.... because I can't imagine him being so in need of comfort that he'd risk Chi being seen if it was an unrelated Complex. And the description of the camp as Doumeki came up and delivered his news was very vivid.

Not much Doumeki/Watanuki interaction here, but there wasn't much call for it -- and Doumeki's silent acceptance of the things Watanuki was driven to do, without ever needing to ask why is telling, too. Even being willing to go and break the news to the camp -- knowing he couldn't answer any questions they might have had.

I wondered how much of Kurogane's questioning Watanuki couldn't answer because he didn't know, how much he couldn't answer because he knew but couldn't find words to explain it, and how much was the habit of secrecy? And Kuro came off perfectly in that setting -- asking the questions he had to for his ( ... )

Not to worry, thanks for taking the time to respond. ^_^

There's really not too much risk of Chi being seen just by having her outside now and then. Occasions when outsiders would turn up would be extremely rare, so excepting periods when they've got a newcomer like Watanuki or Kohane around, it wouldn't be too unusual for her to be out of the lab now and then - poor Chi just doesn't seem to come up in the story very much so far. You're dead on about there being good reasons why Fye was hit so hard by what happened, but that'll be coming up soon enough in the story anyway.
