It sounds a bit weird to be comparing a 2D fighting game to an RPG, but you don’t have to think that hard to come up with a decent list of stuff the Final Fantasy series and Guilty Gear have in common. You’ve got the great plots and characters, the pretty girls in short skirts, the equally pretty guys (sometimes also in skirts), the rampaging ( Read more... )

My god, I knew there was something familiar about Sol! I laughed so hard while reading this (the last box for Sol in Overture especially).

And yeah, they really should get together for a drink. Wonder who'd win if they do fight... (coughcoughofcourseit'sSolcoughcough)

I know it certainly amused *me* more than it should have. XD (I should really have been paying more attention to the GG2/DoC parallels earlier on, it would've given me a much better idea of what to expect ^^;)

(well, naturally!XD)

Hahaha you know this really amuses me in the fact that I was just talking to one of my girlfriends about how I'm going to treat GG2:O just like how I treated DoC when it came out.

Most of the FF fandom appalls DoC for it's absolute RAPE-AGE of the FF7 backstory and the complete bastardization of the fandom's favorite mysterious background characters (Lucrecia, Hojo, etc). Due to this, most of the fandom treats DoC as an AU, and go so far as to call it a "BADLY WRITTEN FANFICTION".

Which by my opinion I find GG2:O to be a fanfic reader's nightmare. Throw in some random unnamed Mary Sue that the MAIN CHARACTER FALLS IN LOVE WITH FOR NO PARTICULAR EXPLAINED REASON AND BLAMO! You have a story to put in FF.net's Hall-of-SHAME.All of the FF fandom expected DoC to explain many of the FF7 story's background mysteries.. especially everything that revolved around Vincent. Unfortunately they DID NOT deliver. Simply for the fact that every explanation given directly contradicted the original storyline ( ... )

Hi there! <3

Completely with you on the DoC front. We bought a copy and played through it to the end somehow or other, and I think there was, oh, maybe one scene in the whole game that didn't make me want to beat the writers to death with a hard cover plot guide to the original FFVII. GG2 practically looks good in comparison (at least they seem to be willing to admit it's all AU and was never meant to make much sense in the first place) and that's saying something. Forget strange, it's seriously freaky how much the two games coincide.

If I'd caught a fanfic writer trying to pull off garbage like that, I'd never have bothered reading past the summary. Honestly, if they really had to go try something so different, a lot of parts of Overture could still have made a decent AU stide story or something, but if anyone tries to tell me it's supposed to ( ... )
