Anyone listen to Loveline? I admit, I do if I'm in the car and it happens to be on -- it's a guilty pleasure. I've been listening for years, even though Carolla (Corolla?) drives me up a freaking wall! Love Dr. Drew, though

i think a lot of folks are aware of it, especially in pop fandoms. i know justin timberlake said something along the lines 'it's cool, as long as you realize i haven't actually seen any of the other guys dicks'
Well, that's a good response, I guess. I mean, it's gonna happen anyway, even if they actively try to combat it. I just don't like the idea of purposely shoving the concept in their faces, like this girl did. She's trying to force her reality and her fantasy to collide, and that's not necessarily a good thing.
Oh, definitely, me too. But I was talking more about the negative consequences for the writers should the subjects find out. Although I'm not sure what they can do, given the concept. It's not like fanfic, where you can have copyright battles. They're not using someone's characters, they're just writing about the people. Unless it's for defamation of character or something, I'm not sure what they could do. Although if the sites use images, those might be copyrighted.
Oh, okay. I have no concept as to what the legal ramifications are.
The Larry Flynt case made the point that it wasn't defamation or indemnifiable if "no reasonable person would believe it" -- so you could have a case where someone got sued for writing RPF online and got let off because of First Amendment Protections for Parody, even if they really meant it seriously. Because it was their fantasy...
For the most part, I would think filing suit would invite more problems then it would solve. Going after licensed images is probably what you'd get. Because you can't win (publicity-wise even if you win legally) for suing a 13 year old girl over her making her fantasies about you public...
Have to say that was a pretty shitty thing to do and kudos (and admiration from me) to the guy for keeping it together and even thanking her for being a fan. But seriously... these guys are straight and many people who are one orientation have a problem being considered (or considering themselves) involved in some sort of sexual situation which places them in the other orientation. Seriously, I think that was shitty and a real "power" move. She wants to have power over him. IMO.
And yeah, I should think if people know it's written about them, they want to know it in the back of their heads not face to face with it.
Exactly, that's exactly what it seemed like to me. She was trying to give herself power over them, in an "I know what you do in the bedroom" kinda way, even if it's nowhere near true. As I said above, she's trying to force her realities and her fantasies together, even if the latter has no basis in reality.
Yeah... you know it's out there, but you don't want to be confronted head on by it. That's how I feel about certain kinds of fic, and it's not even about me. *g*

Anyway, that's the angle I was speaking from.
