Along the Chicago River last Wednesday, 2-shot composite

I like mixed light sources - the orange-ish sodium-vapor contrasted with whatever the white is from the factory lights.

2 shot composite? How did you combine them?

I just replaced the smoke and lights on the tower, is all. It was bright enough to be completely blown out in the main shot.

Tripod?

I haven't started regularly packing my gorillapod yet to get neat night shots like this. I'm just addicted to high ISO. So need a better sensor. I covet me some d90.

No tripod, I held it on a railing, still at iso100.

I found that my gorillapod can't hold the weight of the 40d + a head + a big lens, so when I have it I've been using a manfrotto "super clamp", with a mini ball head attached. The thing is great, and its around $25, and takes less space too.

This time though, I only had the camera as I was walking by.

White looks like mercury vapor lamps to me. Has a slightly bluish cast.

Wow. I've seen pics like this, but with models. You're so cool.

You manage to make the mundane, normally somewhat ugly, industrial world, beautiful. The light or 2-shot thing or however you did this is amazing. Like a spotlight made naturally. :)

Very nice. Ominous, industrial and oddly pleasing.

I think it's one of the best photos you've taken.
