I'd try to check the time immediately! You can find out if you're dreaming if you look at the time, look away and then look back-if it's changed, you're dreaming, because the subconscious is terrible at keeping a good track of real time during dreams.

Woah, for real? I didn't know that! It definitely sounds like a good way to save yourself when you're dreaming really really bad!

I learned it from a book on lucid dreaming. ㅎㅎ I never quite figured out how to dream lucidly, but all of the information was really interesting none the less. Other things can tell you you're dreaming, too, like trying to unlock a door, or reading a sign or a book. Normal things like that just don't seem to work correctly when you're asleep!
