"Shigeaki, could you please run me some errands?" Koyama held out a short list of groceries and scanned through the contents briefly. "You can try to familiarize yourself with the streets and markets around for your own benefit."
Shigeaki took the list and went shopping for fruits.
"Shigeaki, kindly turn the lights off when you're done," Koyama muttered another time while the other man stayed up late reading up on culture and history. For awhile Koyama realized the slur in his words when he spoke of his name. Shigeaki, Shigeaki. Shigeaki. He clicked his tongue and fell back asleep.
"Shigeaki, please don't throw objects at Nyanta like that, he doesn't meant to offend you, or anyone," he said another time later, and Koyama could feel the complication in his speech as he picked the blanket up from the cat's head.
"I'm allergic to cats, I can't live with them, I've told you," Shigeaki pointed out for the nth time, his hand covering his nose and mouth.
Koyama dropped out of realization for a second and thought. "Shige--"
"Pardon?"
"Your name is too long. I'll call you Shige for short," he smiled at the idea of it. "It sounds appropriate."
"Shige...? What is that? My name is--"
"Your name is Shige. That will be your nickname."
Shige looked at the sleeping cat on the floor, pausing. "Shige?"
"That's you. And you can call me Keii-chan. Now we're even."
"Right..."
Koyama couldn't help but smile and call him again by the new nickname he had come up with for him. "Shige."
