I loved this ep for all the shiny points you enumerate above, but I loved that the writers let us see that they are geeky fanboys over all kinds of genre TV - hello, Sopranos extras! Hi there, production staff! - not just SF. I liked that they pulled Solitary Man from Cash's last album where he can barely sing, and the rest of the music editor's choices, as unsubtle as fuck, but my metabrain can wank that, too.
I wanted Sheppard to at least *touch* the chair, and I wanted Rodney to send the Daedalus back for him. But hey, that's what the fic is for, you know?
I know they killed John. I was surprised, but partly pleased, just like I was pleased that he took the money. Badass, heart of gold, John. But it's weird because I think this was the first universe that John didn't end up in Atlantis and isn't that... a very bad thing? He's the one that started it all, but perhaps they have a different catalyst in this universe.
And I loved the music, loved it. And I kept thinking "does CSI look like this?" I don't watch CSI so I have no idea how it's filmed, but I thought it was fun. Very clever in making the wraith find Earth in our SGA universe by having another universe screw things up. A bit of cheating there, but when you get the word that you're canceled and you had an "end" in mind you must get there somehow, so I found it clever.
