ok...not what i said. policy aside, im just shocked that a comment like that becomes a normal discussion. i want to see any other world leader (or our president, for example) say he wants to eliminate a country (Iran, or India like you said, although jobs isn't what Iran wants to get rid of Israel for...not even comparable), and it be a "so aside from some star trek actor being gay, another thing that happened today was..." reaction that cites criticism (and widespread popular support in that country).
His comments were addressed equally against US and Israel, although knowing how "sensitive" our intelligence is to various threats, he wouldn't dare to suggest eliminating the US. He'd be gone instantly. So he expressed a sentiment against the US and Israel, but suggested to eliminate Israel
( ... )
Yeah, he wanted a world without the United States or Zionism, but if America didn't ally itself with Israel we wouldn't be nearly as much of a concern.
You're right, there WILL be thousands of people supporting Bush if he condemns the statements (just as Anan, Palestinian leaders, and others have done), but if Bush were to blatantly state that he would like to take Iran off the map, we would wouldn't be seeing Iranian flag burning parties in the streets.
We CAN kick anybody's butt :) but when certain countries are observing standards (whether of civility of of the UN) and others aren't, it becomes increasingly difficult to just accept these statements (after a nice round of political discourse).
