Eeee, kitty.

Day 4: Today I made a new friend - an absolutely beautiful cat named Zen. She's smaller and more finely-built than most cats, with beautiful dark brown stripes on pale tan fur. I'd let Mom borrow my camera, otherwise I would've tried to sneak a picture of her... anyway, she's a total and utter sweetheart and I was upstairs loving on her every ( Read more... )

Of course, I never really figured out the secret to making human friends. Animals are less complicated.

So much been there.

Well, aside from the internet . . . :)

I have exactly two real-life friends that I would call such (a few acquaintances, but not close ones). The most I've had at any given time was three (including those two). In all three cases we had some significant fandom connection that we bonded over, so that the awkwardness was burned up in the fires of OMGSQUEEEE!ness.

The internet is so helpful, bringing the few-and-far-between perverted fans all together in one place so I can interact with them.

(And then of course there's the text thing; it's so much easier to communicate by writing than by mouth.)

It may not be a surprise to all and sundry that as a small child I neither had nor pined for human neighbourhood friends - but I could list in detail the names, appearances, likely sunning spots and personalities of every one of the local cats.

much more comfortable with animals I am than with people

Me too. Animals are honest and easy to talk to. They don't talk back and argue or create unnecessary conflict. I've always been closer to my pets than to people.

I love Bear and Monette. Just reading their books makes me want to write. Though they also make me feel ridiculously inferior because their writing is so awesome.
