Is this the same carnival the press reported as going really well and without incident? It sounds grim.

I think the actual carnival was probably all right, what I ran into was all the people who had attended the carnival and been drinking heavily and refused to go home.

I did wonder when I saw all the press reports talking about how uneventful and quiet it all was and how well everyone was behaving!

I think it's because loads of people stayed put after the carnival 'officially' ended (I was there after the end) and they just carried on drinking and causing chaos.
