Haha, yes, that is leather although she loves that chair and doesn't bring her claws and teeths anywhere near it. She prefers to rip the carpet, the plants, the sheets and of course human flesh.
Candy (the star of my icon) ripped one side of a leather armchair (boo!), a load of anaglypta wallpaper (good riddance!) and regularly tries to shred the carpets (which are too old and tough).
We have decided not to get new carpets until she's gone. She's 15 so I think we can put up with the old ones for 5 years or so.
Thankee :) She is exceedingly cute which is just a well considering how pesty she is ;)
As for allergies it depends on how bad they are - sometimes they can be controlled well by antihistamines. On the other hand if your eyes start swelling shut, you will among other things no longer be able to appreciate kitty cuteness.
