Untouchable
She's a journalist on a mission. He's a photographer with a crush. Together, they fight tyranny, corruption and political abuse... through their tabloid!
Untouchable is an awesome little gem that was marketed all wrong -- they tried to sell it as a fun comedy, and while that's not exactly untrue (tabloid!) the real meat of the story is in the killer whodunnit stringing you along an overarching mystery. At only 9 eps it's like watching an extended movie full of red herrings and plot twists. Definitely recommended if you like suspense dramas or guessing games!
Narumi Ryoko: inspired heroine, mighty journalist, seeker of truth...
For a tabloid.
Fired from the prestigious National Journal, now she slums at a third-rate gossip rag where her boss makes her investigate celebrity scandals and small disasters, the juicier the better. ("Oh, it's a hostage situation? GREAT! Get kidnapped and give us the inside scoop!")
Her partner, Takafuji. He has no illusions about the business but gets swept up in her enthusiasm anyway, FOR GREAT JUSTICE!
Together, they are... dedicated!
Cultured!
Prepared for all possibilities!
And they are always professional, like when they have a shoving match during an interview, or when they tattle to the boss by literally pointing fingers and saying "well SHE started it!"
Emotional maturity of five year olds? You know what this means!
OTP!
Of course, it's important to always play it cool.
Shiro-chan, an ex-colleague of Narumi's and the victim recipient of her lust, once again proving my theory that Kaname Jun can't be in a single drama without someone
pawing at
him. It's a rule of the universe. When you look like Kaname Jun, people can't control themselves.
An excellent sandwich. *_____*
Narumi's investigations take her deep in a conspiracy with a rising body count and a shadowy villain known only as "Anonymous." Narumi wants to get to the bottom of things, but the further she digs, the more Anonymous retaliates, and she realizes the corruption is a lot more widespread than she thought.
Narumi is determined to find the truth... which is harder than it looks since everyone acts like retarded monkeys banging around with their first detective kit.
A cult... a cult... dedicated to public safety. OH GODDDDDDD!!! RUN!!!
It gets worse: a children's fundraiser is actually the seedy underbelly of a CABAL! On a scale of dumb, dumber and dumbest, Untouchable ranks all the way to MR. BRAIN. But that's okay, because the real mystery is a good one:
Who the fuck is Anonymous?
What do they really want?
And who will survive to the end?
All in all this is a nice, tightly-plotted suspense drama with some good twists and the occasional dunk in crazyland. Plus there's UST and shippy sandwiches and Nakama Yukie! What's not to love?
