Two excellent articles on Democracy Now! today really spear the hypocrisy of Far-Right leaders who have been wrapping themselves in false patriotism and attacking those who work for this entire country as traitors and terrorists, while they work to destroy this country and what it stands for. I can understand (though not agree with) your discussion of extremism, but racism???

Did I miss out on some racist remarks from the campaign (McCain's).

I recall some pretty racist remarks against Palin (How could a white girl from Iowa/Alaska possibly give a rats ass about the blacks or jews. She hunts moose for god sake!)

Has there been similar racism coming from the McCain camp?

Well, first, the comment about Palin was made by a guy in a group of blacks and Jews, and if you take the time to actually look at the context, you'll see that right after they finished discussing the issues they had in common because they live in the same places and deal with the same things, this guy alludes that some well-off woman from Alaska won't have those same connections. Second, this was not at an Obama rally, but at an separate Democratic convention to help Jews and blacks find common political ground; funny how that idea doesn't get explored as part of this myth.

Now Palin especially has focussed on Obama as an "other", someone who is not like us, who doesn't see American the way we do. And the back-channels like Rush have been pushing an incredibly racist agenda, saying things like Angry Blacks Are In 30 Year Plot To Train Black Children as MilitantsRacism is still one of the strongest factors in our society today; a white candidate doesn't have to work to foster it, they have to work to suppress it.
