I've been really motivated to start writing lately. I've been doing a lot of worldbuilding mentally, and I'm ready to get to the "writing shit down" stage, I think. I'm basically getting a lot of worldbuilding ideas for what would have been my NaNovel for last year ( Read more... )

Speaking as the woman who wrote most of a Nano about the Ancients from a couple of references in SGA canon, I think I can give you a pass this time.

Well, if it helps I also promise to abstain from copying Carey or Kushner. :) (Well, Kushner at least. I recently read the new Carey, and there's probably a bit of her influence on how I developed the Sith Houses.)

I think one of my biggest challenges is how to avoid making the Sith seem uncharacteristically good. I don't agree with canon because the kind of evil society that canon posits simply could not possibly last millennia as a stable entity. The Jedi are said to be good, but shown to be... well, not so good. So I think I can buy leeway on what the Sith are like *with each other*, within an established form of society. But it would be very easy to stray into writing them as too nice in a way that's not "challenging canon", but completely OOC. I don't know how to locate that line.
