tonight i experienced a rare closing shift at work, which always proves arduous in comparison to my normal five a.m. shifts. early in the evening, two of our regulars came in. jim and eileen are two of my favorite customers, because they're always very friendly. along with their drinks, the fifty- or sixty-something couple often share a pastry
