"That's it. Time to die."

I've been back at work for three weeks now. For some reason, there is a children's movie playing on the TVs by toys constantly. I mean constantly, as in over and over and over and I watch the same damn movie three or four times a night until I can quote the stupid thing word for word. (The movie in question, by the way, is Aliens in the AtticIn ( Read more... )

Bitch better believe I've got book recs!

Okay, first off, The Stepsister Scheme, its sequel The Mermaid's Madness and Goblin Quest by Jim Hines. The first two are about Cinderella, Snow White and Sleeping Beauty on a quest to rescue Cinderella's husband, and later his mother. The third is about a scrawny goblin named Jig who gets shanghaied by a group of adventurers to serve as a guide on their quest. All are heavy on the comedy. XD

Also, Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson. It's a cyberpunk novel about the world's greatest hacker and swordsman, Hiro Protagonist (and yes, the name is mocked in-story) and his associate, the 15-year-old Kourier (also the best), Y.T. (Yours Truly). It's a world where pizza delivery is serious fucking business (run by the mafia) and a powerful cult is in the process of unleashing a mindvirus to wipe the minds of hackers. Good stuff.

Meg Cabot's Mediator series is also great if you're in the mood for something a little more lighthearted. It's about a girl named Suze who is a Mediator, that is, she can ( ... )

Hoo boy do I have recs! Some of these may be tough to find, as most are at least twenty years old.

Christopher Stasheff's A Wizard in Rhyme, first book is Her Majesty's Wizard

Joel Rosenberg's Guardians of the Flame series, starts with The Sleeping Dragon, also liked Keepers of the Hidden Ways trilogy

David and Leigh Eddings wrote two five-part series called The Belgariad and The Malloreon

Raymond Feist's Riftwar Cycle. I think there are 26 books in the series now, with three more on the way. I can't tell you how much I loved the first six books -- the first trilogy tells the story of the invasion from the POV of the ones invaded; the second three from the invader society.

Leo Brankowski's Adventures of Conrad Stargard, starting with The Cross-Time Engineer. I must warn you, though, I liked this series for the cool science in time-travel. Brankowski was a misogynist.

I actually own The Belgariad--I picked all five books up at a thrift store back in September. I managed to get through a book and a half before giving up. Perhaps I should try it again...

I shall add the rest to my catalog search!

Have you read the 2 "Kushiel" trilogies yet? They're excellent fantasy. The 3rd trilogy has started as well.

Very sexy too (added bonus!)

Oh my god I love that series! I have read and re-read the first trilogy I don't even know how many times--the covers are actually starting to fall off. (Which is annoying, but so worth it.) I haven't read the second trilogy, though I do own the first book in it--I should go find it. :-)
