Go and see Knives Out ASAP so we can talk spoilers!

I saw 2 movies over the Christmas holidays. “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker”, which I found tedious, and whodunnit “Knives Out”, which was So. Much. Fun. I saw them less than a week apart, and “Knives Out” took away all my bitterness about the mediocrity of “Rise of Skywalker”. Avoid spoilers. You want to see “Knives Out” without knowing the ( Read more... )

I just saw this movie the other day and I completely agree! It was a blast to watch! This was definitely the most entertained I've been by a new movie in a good long while. And yeah, I was deeply unimpressed by Branaugh's Murder on the Orient Express, too, so this scratched that whodunit itch I've had. Personally, I don't think the previews did it justice. Or at least the previews I saw on TV for Knives Out didn't appeal to me. It was only due to word of mouth and good reviews that I even checked it out.

In total agreement with you on all that. I'm going to create a new LJ entry as soon as I get a minute, and warn people that there will be spoilers in the comments, so I can keep the comments of THIS entry spoiler-free. I want to talk spoilers!

I thought the second of the 3 trailers was pretty decent, but the first and third trailers did nothing for me. And having seen the first, disappointing trailer, I didn't go seeking out anything else about the movie. I only FINALLY went to see the movie because I kept reading reviews telling me it was brilliant. If they'd done better trailers, I probably would've seen it opening night, or at least opening weekend, instead of after it had been out for a month. Thank goodness all the reviewers played fair and didn't give away the plot in their reviews.

This link above goes to the decent trailer. Why they made that the second trailer and made the worst of the 3 the FIRST trailer seems utterly illogical to me. The first trailer is usually the only one people see, unless they're hardcore fans.

The movie was made on a $40 million USD budget, and has grossed $215 million USD worldwide in a little over a month in release. But it seems to have made all that money in spite of the studio's promotional efforts, rather than because of them.

Ooh, that trailer was much better than the ones I saw! More representative of what the movie was.
