We want you to be comfortable when posting your offers and bids and we want you to know that the money is going to a charity that stands by their, and our, cause ( Read more... )

Here's the information about how to donate to SETA. Sadly it's all in finnish, and I'm not exactly sure if it works if you don't have a Finnish bank account. There's an account number for direct donations as well, though so... yeah I don't know enough about these things.

My current favourite is Straight but Not Narrow! They actually target straight people and encourage them to be open-minded! They're a pretty youth-driven group and they've got a great (and funny!) way of getting their idea across! :)

And The Matthew Shepard Foundation, too. They've made a great thing out of a terrible tragedy. ♥

hi. i just found this and i think this is an awesome idea. do you think you can add Rainbow Delegation to the list? they send out wristbands (for free) so people can show support for the LGBTQ community and i got mine last year but i haven't been able to donate anything. i might be able to do something in return through this project.

thanks.

If I were to be an offerer, would I be permitted/able to request that my buyer(s) not donate to a particular org? There is one listed that I am not especially comfortable with, but I'd still like to participate.

You can certainly ask them not to, but it is ultimately up to them. May I ask which organization it is and why?

HRC. While I won't deny that they've done good, there are a couple things that have put me off. The first is when GENDA was up for debate, they threw transpeople under the bus.

Also, after the NYS senate passed marriage equality last summer, HRC took credit (openly) for the victory. I was there (literally, I live in Albany and was at the Capitol), and while HRC DID provide snacks and water, and a few man hours, it was the smaller grassroots orgs that did the majority of actual hard work. HRC vols put in a fraction of the time and effort, but then got credit for the work of others.

So it's nothing terrible, but as a transman, and someone who is friends with several of the activists who spent many very long days and nights in the Capitol, I personally don't support HRC.

That's very understandable. I'm sure if you discuss this with potential bidders, they will have no problem donating to a different charity. I hope you will participate if you so wish.

If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to ask.

Thank you.
