Chapter 4
Elle could feel someone shaking her gently, she didn’t want to open her eyes her head was killing her. She opened them slightly and saw a boy looking down at her. Suddenly it all came back Gabriel kissing another girl, her running out of there and into his car.
“We’re at your house”
The boy said smiling
“How do you know where I live?”
“You told me before you fell asleep”
Elle nodded and climbed out of the car.
“Are you going to be alright?”
“Yeah fine”
“Well I’ll see you Monday then”
“Monday?”
“We go to the same school”
God she felt stupid, at least it meant she hadn’t climbed into a car with a total stranger.
“I’m Peter by the way”
He said as he drove away.
Gabriel was furious. He had called her cell and her house but there was no answer. He’d asked someone outside if they knew who’s car she had gotten into. When they said Peter Petrelli he’d almost cried. He knew he wasn’t as bad as his brother but if he was a Petrelli how good could he be? He turned the corner to Elle’s street he had to know if she was okay.
Elle could hear something ringing in the distance and managed to crawl out of her bed. Blinking she realized it was the doorbell and headed down the stairs.
“Elle”
Gabriel sighed once she opened the door, she was okay and that was all that mattered.
Elle couldn’t believe he had shown up at her house, she didn’t need some pathetic excuse or for him to break up with her. She slammed the door in face.
“Elle”
He said banging on it
“Open the door”
“Do you know how worried I’ve been, I’ve been calling for hours”
“Did you think maybe I just didn’t want to talk to you?”
Elle reached into her pocket to check her cell phone but it wasn’t there she must have left it in Peter’s car.
“Elle I had no idea where you were”
“This isn’t exactly the best time to play the doting boyfriend card”
“Elle there was nothing going on between me and that girl”
“Go away”
“Just open the door, we need to talk”
“There’s nothing to talk about”
“I wasn’t kissing that girl”
“Oh really”
“She kissed me for about a second and then I pushed her away”
“Elle open the door please”
“Look you’re not going to let something as small as this come between us are you?”
“There is no us; we’re through”
Elle hissed, with that she ran upstairs to her room and got under the bed covers. He could ring the doorbell all he liked he wasn’t getting in the house.
Gabriel stood at her locker waiting, he knew she would have to go there at some point in the morning and he wasn’t leaving until he got to talk to her. She needed to understand what happened he would never cheat on her; he loved her.
“Elle”
She was about to go into the school when she saw Peter coming up behind her.
“Hey”
He held out her cell phone and she nearly hugged him.
“Thanks I’ve been looking all over for this”
“It no problem, I lost mine once it was like loosing an arm”
Elle laughed but she didn’t really mean it, the only person she talked to was Gabriel she doubted whether he would be calling her anymore. Part of her had wanted to talk to him when he had turned up at her house; maybe the girl had thrown herself at him, but the other half of her kept flashing images into her brain of them wrapped around each other.
She headed inside and went straight to her first class. There was no way she was going anywhere near her locker she didn’t need to face a Gabriel ambush. She knew him well enough to know that if he wanted to talk to her he would wait there.
Gabriel cursed; he had been late to his first lesson and considered missing it all together. Adam had told him to give up and go to class; she obviously wasn’t going to turn up. He had almost hit Adam when he saw him, if he hadn’t had that stupid party and dragged them along none of it would have happened. Mohinder had managed to calm him down but he still blamed him. It didn’t matter anyway, Adam was only friends with them because of Elle; without her Gabriel doubted he’d stick around long.
Elle glanced round the cafeteria Adam wasn’t there which ruled out sitting with him, she didn’t want to sit by herself in case Gabriel came up to her. She supposed she could always eat lunch in the toilets as she had done in one of her past schools.
“Elle”
It was Peter she saw smiling and waving.
She walked over and sat with him.
“Elle this is Hiro, Ando and Eden”
“Hi”
Gabriel couldn’t believe it she was sitting with Peter fucking Petrelli!
“Look it’s alright”
Mohinder said.
“How is this alright?”
“I know the girl over there, we’ll go over and I’ll say hi”
“And that helps me how?”
Mohinder didn’t want to admit it didn’t really help him, he just wanted to talk to Eden. He didn’t think that would go over particularly well.
“Maybe you can listen to their conversation or something”
Elle narrowed her eyes; Mohinder and Gabriel where heading over to her. To her surprise they didn’t talk to her, but walked over to Eden where Mohinder started talking to her. Gabriel just stood there and Elle could feel his eyes on her. She realized that Peter was talking to her.
“Sorry what did you say?”
“Do you want to go out with me sometime?”
Elle glanced up at Gabriel before answering, she knew it was a bitchy thing to do but she didn’t care she wanted to hurt Gabriel.
“Sure that sounds great”
Gabriel felt physically sick, he couldn’t stand this. Elle was going out with Peter he couldn’t take this. He headed out of the cafeteria but he could still hear the two of them laughing behind him.
Adam and Mohinder found him sitting outside.
“Why aren’t you sitting with them?”
He spat at Adam.
“Well with me and that crowd it’s complicated”
“Look I don’t care just go and sit with someone else”
Mohinder put his hand on Gabriel’s arm
“You need to calm down”
Gabriel shook him off and walked away.
“We need to fix this”
Mohinder said to Adam
“Oh definitely; she can’t go out with Peter”
“Why did you two fall out?”
Mohinder was curious there, had been rumours about it at the time but Adam hadn’t told anyone.
“He disapproved of my plans for world domination”
“Of course”
“Come on we need a plan”
“So I had fun last night”
Peter said running his fingers through her hair
“Yeah it was great”
Elle said distractedly, Gabriel was glaring at them from across the hall and if looks could kill both her and Peter would be in trouble.
“Just stop looking at them”
Adam said trying to tug Gabriel away from his locker.
Elle glanced at him again, he didn’t have any right to look at her like that way he was the one who kissed someone else not her. She looked up at Peter and smiled maybe he should get a taste of his own medicine. Leaning forward she kissed Peter softly. Peter wrapped his hands around her head pushing her against the locker kissing back.
Gabriel slammed his locker and walked off if she wanted Peter fine she could have him.
Elle wasn’t sure whether to be glad or upset when she saw Gabriel taking off down the corridor.
Elle sat in the bathroom her feet lifted off the ground it was the perfect place to hide out from lessons she normally reserved it for skipping P.E but today she was just skipping all the lessons she had with Gabriel. She leant against the wall as she heard people come in.
“Oh Maya you should have been there, it was the funniest thing”
“Tell me again what happened”
Elle peeked out through the crack in the door and saw the girl from the party applying make up in the mirror.
“As soon as I saw her stumbling along the corridor I just jumped on him, and of course she fell for it”
“You are so bad”
The other girl said laughing and flicking her hair.
Elle felt sick, Gabriel had been telling the truth. She wanted to run to him and tell him but then she remembered the kiss that fucking kiss with Peter. Gabriel wouldn’t want her now and she couldn’t blame her.
She waited for the girls to leave the bathroom and then hurried out; she just wanted to go home.
Suddenly Adam came running up to her.
