It sucks that things like this happen to people and it especially sucks that it happened to you. You'll find another job Mike but you need to remain positive and confident in your skills. Those skills are what will open other doors for you in not only getting a job, but getting a job that makes you happy as well as pays the bills. So keep motivating yourself and maintain your drive towards your goals for your friends are behind you all the way. Finally let me point out this one thing to you Mike...You won't be "retiring" from fandom and not just anime fandom but fandom in the things you love because once a fan, always a fan, period...

You melodramatic... ^_^;; You know well that nothing will really change since the credit card flip, nor can it. Since then, you've done everything in your power practically to cut off social activities and just sit in front of your PC all day. I practically do it myself, and it's not that fun. "The Next Con; The Next Event; The Next Costume"? It already doesn't. Aside from tiny one day events, all you're willing to ever do is Fanime, and you even cut that the year of the credit meltdown. Aside from weekend travel, what other events are there? And don't make me laugh about the costume part. You haven't made a new costume for yourself in years (how many years was it just to attempt the manga Blackjack? ^_^). It took two to get von Kuspen done, as well as years to do thirty minutes of work on Max that's still not done. At times, I think I could handstitch faster than to wangle you to want to get to work. ;-p So one has to basically grab you by the nuts to so much as put thread to needle. Your life hardly "revolves" around it ( ... )

Mike you will find something better. You are smart, loyal, and hard working. You are like the world's egg. Hard on the outside but nice and soft in the inside. Now go smash the world's egg and be free of that shell that you are in. It is smart though to save while you can so you can look for something new.

Best of luck Mike. Believe in the skills you have and look in the field that best suits you and what you can excel in. I remember the fear that I had when I left Relay years ago (since I had been there for so long). It paid the bills but I would have nightmares of actually dying there and not living. I dropped everything and moved to the Bay Area with little in my pocket.

Life is short and there are many amazing experiences out there (that has nothing to do with Anime). I've seen the sunrise on Mt. Haleakala in Maui, I've been to Death Valley, traveled to Canada for photoshoots and I could have never have done all that that if I never moved (on).

You can retire from 'the scene' but you don't have to retire from being a fan.

I'm wishing you and Vilay the best of luck. I will tell you what I told Vilay. You have a deadline. You can be proactive and search for something now or you can do nothing and wait until the end.
