We got around to watiching the tape of "Lost" we made, and suffice to say we'll be watching that and taping Smallville from now on, so Maggie can fast-forward to the Lex bits. I like it. I don't know how long they can sustain the concept without it getting annoying (Let's face it, it's Gilligan's Island done serious) especially as the creators ( Read more... )

I had a feeling Lost would amuse you. Yay.

I refuse to start hunting up spoilers and shipping characters, though. It's just a TV show!

I loved Gattaca too. Nice story, nice characters, as you've said. Also, doesn't hurt that Ethan Hawke and Jude Law are pretty. *g*

Jude Law does nothing for me, I'm afraid, though I think he's a very good actor. (He was Wheelchair Guy, right? I'm hopeless at keeping track of who plays what...)

Lost is indeed a superior show. So far, my favorite character is Charlie, the smartass. No surprise, since I have a fondness for snarky characters.

Smallville from now on, so Maggie can fast-forward to the Lex bits.

I'm willing to forgo Smallville entirely, since I'm not sure the series can recover after the incredibly moronic season opener. But if wildrider is willing to give it another chance or two, I can hold my breath and hope they aren't completely screwing up Lex's character. After all, wildrider has pointed out that Steven DeKnight is producing it, so maybe there's hope... Although the black kryptonite alone pretty much gave me an aneurysm.

It would definitely be interesting to see DeKnight write a Lex centric episode.

I'm willing to record it a few more times, just to see where they're going, but if it keeps being this lame, I'm going to record "That 70's Show" instead. Once again, although there's next to nothing on TV I want to watch, it's (almost) all on Wednesday.

Giant Word on Gattaca- I can't believe you hadn't seen it before. Isn't it lovely?

Your niece sounds like me at that age. :)

Gattaca was one of those movies I always wanted to see, but somehow I never got around to it, and then it was out of the theaters, etc. It's been on the t0-watch list foreeeever...

I LOVE Gattaca. I'm not a huge Ethan Hawke fan (or a fan at all really) but I still love Gattaca. I love its aesthetic, it's questions, its science... and Jude Law.

And I agree with you about Lost I enjoyed its premiere and found it engaging. I have some reservations about whether they can keep up the premise without self parody or repetition, but I'm more than willing to give them a chance. And I hope it doesn't descend into soap opera... not that I don't love soaps. It's just that long ago I discovered that while I don't mind a little soap in my sci-fi, I HATE sci-fi in my soap. It's a thing. :)

T think the long term success will depend on whether the producers have a plan--do they know what te deal with the island is, even if they're not going to reveal all? Or are they just going to make it up as they go along till it suffers an X-File collapse under the weight of its own mythology? (Assuming it lasts that long?)
