Damn it

It never fails -- Kathy leaves to visit her mother for a week, and something bad happens to one of the animals while I'm the only one here to deal with it. I leave the house, Bo is fine. I come back half an hour later and he's limping around unable to put any weight at all on his right front foot. And of course it's seven o fucking clock at ( Read more... )

Are you sure it's his pad? Sounds like he might have torn his ACL while you were gone.

I thought ACL was only in hind legs? It's his right front he can't walk on. He can bend the elbow and 'wrist' joint of the leg with no apparent problem, it's when the pad touches the floor that he cries and pulls it back up again. And when I can get him to lie down, he seems to be licking the foot, not the joints higher up. I'll find out tomorrow morning, I guess.

Ah, my bad. I thought I read that he was not putting weight on a hind leg. My own multiple experiences causing me to assume that's what I read. *sigh* Yep, that sounds more like a paw. No visible wounds or blood? He might have caught a toe on something. Is there heat or swelling somewhere? I'm sure he'll be fine till tomorrow. No happy, maybe, but fine. Spider bite? Are there other toxic tiny things in AZ? Those are my two guesses - broken, sprained toe or small bite that's not visible.

No visible wounds or blood, no visible swelling. The reason I thought glass was that we did break a glass in the kitchen the other day, and I found a piece we'd missed just today, so it's entirely possible we missed some smaller pieces when cleaning it up. But it could be a sprained toe -- we have a crocheted afghan on the couch, and it's possible he could have caught a toenail in the weave while jumping off the couch or something like that.

(And yeah, there are tons of spiders and scorpions here that could potentially cause problems, but usually if it's that, there's visible swelling or redness around the bite.)

Fingers crossed he magically heals overnight.

Let's hope so. (It wouldn't be the first time if he does -- he's had Mystery Limps a time or two before, and they've gone as quickly as they came.)

I hope that you find in the morning his paw is fine. It may be. Maybe he misses Kathy and wants you to feel sorry for him. (At least, I hope that's all it is!)

I wouldn't put it past him. He can be a bit of a drama queen!
