Seasonal Spuffy FYI

Aug 03, 2011 08:22

I've seen several people on my flist saying that they don't know if they're going to participate in Seasonal Spuffy this time because of the move to DW, since they have no interest in getting a DW account. I just wanted to point out that you do not have to have a DW account to participate. The community has a generic posting account that people ( Read more... )

We're going to post a better explanation about the reasons behind our move to DW and how the move will work later this week. I suspect some people are objecting to the fact we're not crossposting because they don't fully understand how the RSS feed (sspuffy_dw) works. It's... pretty much like crossposting. But we can't embed the RSS feed in the main community, nor can we auto-crosspost the way you can with a personal journal.

Thanks so much for signing up for this round and supporting our move to DW.

Oh, I'm pretty sure they understand. They just don't like being told "my way or the highway" about something that's supposed to be recreational fun. When you have to do a whole new setup, it feels like work if it's not your own idea. Human nature: it's all prickly.

I'm not so sure about that - everyone has different levels of technical and web comfort. It's also clear to me from the comments that some people didn't read the post thoroughly. While that is by far the minority of the concerns that have been expressed, we do need a clear and concise explanation of how everything works and the options people have for posting to the DW comm, leaving comments there, and following it from LJ. That post is in the works.

I'm well aware that you don't agree with the decision to move the community to DW without polling the community and that you're not alone in that. If you don't like my moderation style or the fact that I haven't been receptive to your suggestions, I'm not really sure what more to say. I want to preserve all of the hard work Spuffy fandom has put into this community and keep it alive for the future. Which does, yes, mean moving it elsewhere.

I'm not sure I like this vanishing of Seasonal Spuffy. I wouldn't of even known a new season was approaching if not for you :P. Was the move to DW ever announced in LJ and I just missed it?

Yes, there was a big post in the LJ comm yesterday or the day before announcing signups for the new round and the move. It isn't vanishing, just moving down the block!

OK by me. I'm just pointing out that if the only reason someone's hesitant about participating is that they don't want to set up a DW account, there are other options.

Hmm. I haven't participated for the last couple of rounds, but I may sign up this time--with BtVS fandom dwindling, I want to support the remaining Spuffy communities.

Yeah, I was all set not to participate this time - I was OVER ficathons, OVER THEM I TELL YOU! But then I saw the announcement and thought to myself, "Self, not that you are such a massive draw these days, but they are going to need all the support they can get."
