A question for Tower peeps

Jun 03, 2009 16:32

Would there be any interest in my setting up a fic archive, similar to the one I have for my Buffy stories here, to house old Tower fics? Obviously this wouldn't be a complete collection, just anyone who happens to be reading this and happens to have an electronic copy of their old stories. (It's a little more difficult to include graphic stories ( Read more... )

wonders on what my story was typed. I get the idea it was probably an old brother word processor

I wasn't so lucky. Medical school was too expensive to afford one for the home. Hell my medical school didn't even have them at the time (You should see the ones they have now!)

I'd be interested. I have a few stories on this machine already, and the ones that are currently just on paper... well, it wouldn't hurt me to practice using my scanner, eh? (I mean the *machine* variety! ;) )

It would also be great to be able to access your stories, Barb. I had a bunch on my old computer, but didn't feel right transferring them w/out permission (and I only had limited time anyway).

Oh, heavens, you've got permission to do whatever you like with your copies - I sent them to you of my own free will. *g*

Well, it's too late now... old computer was left in Maryland and died soon after. But I can confess that I saved "Unity of Heart" and the "Victorian Elves" segment (the one on the train)... couldn't resist!

Ooh, you still have the train scene? I was just looking for that the other day, and couldn't find it. I can't imagine that I'd have deleted it on purpose, but it's not in my fragments directory...

Well, if you're doing this, there may be no reason to do a final zine (let's face it, the club is dead and has been for some time and after what I just got in the last week says that it's time to close it down AND due to lack of funds and interst, whe shut the website down) and your timing, deliberate or not, is quite impeccible. If everyone else is game, then it's a good idea. Who knows, people might actually do some new stuff if there's an archive they can use (and they'd pretty much have free reign because they won't be edited) rather than try and rely on 'zines.

I have a ton of stuff here, of course, if anyone wants it. I even have some stuff that was originally printed in 'zines still in Word or Wordperfect format that might be suitable. It's up to those who wrote it, I suppose.

Would it be okay for me to mention this archive in the next few posts I'm going to send to the Tower list?

Irg, I just realised how this comment may have come across. It sounded more petulant than intended. It doesn't even reflect how I really feel about it. So, I'm gonna try again.

I think this IS a good idea, and I had even considered doing something similar, but you beat me to it. And it'll be a nice outlet for folks if they have stories that didn't get submitted or didn't make a zine, or even had stories related to Tower characters that weren't suitable for the Tower zine.

I did mention there was talk of an archive on the Tower list, but I didn't mention any specifics. I did say there was some discussion and as soon as I had permission to mention it and details, I'd let folks know. :D

I don't mind if you mention it - though you should probably also mention that I have no idea how long it will take me to get it up and working. *g* I'm also not really thinking of it as a place where people could submit new stories off into the indefinite future (mainly because I'm afraid that without anyone editing, different groups of writers would go off on contradictory tangents about what happens next, and I don't want to be put in the position of becoming a de facto editor again.) But if someone had a story in the editing queue that was fairly close to finished, I don't see a problem with that.
