I agree. Never forget that the original was a man's garment and therefore probably had a great capacity for bicep mass in the upper arm. Cut it down for you. I'm sure it will look as awesome as the rest of it. =)
Have cut off a rather substantial triangle, and it looks much better. Haven't quite finished re-sewing as I'm doing this seam by hand, but so far I'm much happier with it.
Oh, I was wearing a black tank top and just pulled it on over my clothes.
I gave away all my cotton underdresses a few months ago, like Cortes burned his ships when he landed in the new world. It's been great motivation to redo my kit for greater authenticity.
On the one I made for a fairly large man, I still had to take about 2" off of each side, at the shoulder, and taper it toward the regular size at the point the sleeve/shoulder seam ended. I'm thinking it may be partly differences in body shape and muscles - my larger man didn't have much shoulder mass - he doesn't fight. The one I made for my hubby based on his chest measurements fit just fine in the shoulders, but he fights and does manual labor that has been building his biceps and shoulders up for the last 15 years - they just keep growing.
You could try that to see if that eliminates some of the "floofy & saggy" look.
