I really, really, really just hate Jenny McCarthy.

One of my friends on twitter retweeted this blog piece, which is rather irritated with ABC.

If you're passionate about the good science/bad science fight in media (which I am) or autism (which I know many people in sf_d are, don't know if they're over here), you may have heard that a scientific study has found no link between autism and dietary Read more... )

i know because of my learnings, health, news

1) I hate Jenny McCarthy.

2) Wait, a paediatrician told them that? AN ACTUAL MEDICALLY TRAINED PERSON THINKS THAT?

I have a feeling it went more like this: vomitrocity January 8 2010, 17:20:28 UTC
Nutjob: Doctor, will my children die without this vaccine?
Doctor: Well, nothing is guaranteed, but the vaccine prevents illness.
Nutjob: So you're saying it isn't required if I don't want to do it?
Doctor: Well... your children won't be protected from illness, but they don't need it to live, I guess.
*fast forward*
Nutjob: OH SHIT MY KIDS ARE SICK! BUT THE DOCTOR SAID I DIDN"T NEED TO VACCINATE THEM!!

Yes, it's been noted that her son's symptoms are more consistent with Landau-Kleffner syndrome. It's difficult to diagnose and is often misdiagnosed as autism.

I want to punch Jenny McCarthy in the face over and over for spewing out this bullshit.

As part of a organization (Rotary) that has been working for YEARS to wipe out certain diseases via vaccination and come so very very close to seeing the end of Polio..To have her come around and say that we don't need to protect against this horrible disease is making me rage.

I was reading an article where a mother actually said that. She said that she had no problem with her children contracting something like smallpox or measles, because after they had it, their immune system would be stronger, "that's how they did it in the past." Yeah, because things were so much better before we started vaccinating kids. I mean, now they actually live long enough for us to figure out they might be autistic.

Oh yea, she has no problem if the little kid down the street dies from it. Or goes partially deaf or suffers other lifelong effects from her decision at all. *Rage*

I am not surprised at all that a gluten-free diet does jack shit to help Autism. Hopefully this will make life easier for families who have enough to deal with without making special food.

I want to smack a commenter that called herd immunity media bull. Have you herd of polio mf?? Seriously?

I second a recommendation of shipping all these people to their own little island. Let them find out the truth themselves. Arrrg.

Science lies! Vaccinations haven't done anything! There's got to be another explanation for why children live through to adulthood far more frequently and once-common diseases are now very uncommon!
