Regretsy brings us more Paypal idiocy in the aftermath of the Christmas charity fiasco. This time, a Regretsy reader sent in a story about their own mishap with Paypal, which involved them selling a very old French violin. The violin was examined and authenticated by an official luthier, but still, the buyer disputed the veracity of the label.

Your icon--my face is stuck like that after clicking through to the link and reading.

What the shit, PayPal?! What they ordered that idiot to do can in no way be legal, they've got shit to pay this time. I hope so, at least. ~_~ They need some comeuppance after all of this recent bullshit, omg.

ETA: And before I saw the picture, I thought the violin would be like... when someone breaks a guitar in half and there's a few pieces connected by strings. NOPE, that thing's as good as toothpicks now.

I'm not a musician but seeing that still made me want to scream. Paypal's a jerk, but so's the buyer...how can you completely desecrate an antique like that and BRAG about it--which is ALL he was doing when he sent that picture to the seller. "HAHA LOOK I KILLED IT IT'S DEAD! :D"

Many people are telling the seller to pursue a suit against Paypal.

...

So let me get this straight: instead of keeping this potentially counterfeit instrument and taking it to the police or similar in order to get them to verify it as either the real McCoy (and thus worth the money) or a fakery in which case they can retrieve the money and arrest the person selling it for fraud, you tell them to smash it to pieces.

...

WHAT THE FLYING ANT-JUGGLING BARBIE-EATING ASS-CLARINET-TOOTING HELL IS THAT SUPPOSED TO ACHIEVE?!!!

I KNOW. Even if you DID suspect a fraud, you don't destroy it until it's actually been VERIFIED BY A JUDGE as counterfeit!

I mean DAMN. That violin survived Hitler, but it couldn't survive PayPal.

PayPal, YOU. FAAAAAAIL. FAIL.

I have no words for this. Shame on Paypal for ordering the violin's destruction and shame on the person who actually did this.
