Since the last update, I have sadly lost Eddie Spaghetti. He died at home, in his sleep, from the results of a brain tumour. He'd been going downhill with it for the last month or so, losing co-ordination in is front legs, dropping weight, being generally confused and disorientated. However, he ate up until the very day of his death and was out

Aww, Eddie passing away makes me sadder than it normally would, he always reminds me of Teddy when I saw pictures of him, and I know my Teddy isnt young anymore. I can only estimate he's somewhere around a year and 9 months or so, so he's not super old, but he's certainly not young anymore either.

I'm trying my hardest NOT to get Skittles a friend from a petshop, it's really hard though, I know she must be lonely. I keep reminding myself that if I were to get her a lady friend from a petshop, I'd end up with probably 10 or so more rats. The petshops around here convince people that all the stock are boys, but every time I go into one, I notice a few girls that have snuck in there, so I know they're kept in mixed cages. And I still am not completely sure she's not pregnant. She hasn't gained any visible weight, but I haven't seen her go into heat either. =\

Sometimes girls wont go into heat if they're stressed from being in a new home or something. I've had a few girls who took a good few weeks to come into heat once I had them, so I wouldn't use it as MUCH of an indicator. Try putting her near your boys, or letting her see them through the bars and see if that helps. I find most of my girls come into heat when seeing the boys!

There doesn't seem to be breeders in my area, and there's only two vets throughout all of Rhode Island who will care for rats (one is convinietly almost always on vacation). :[ Though I do know now which shop NOT to buy from.
