Darkness. Minho looked around at the darkness surrounding his body and felt a suffocating feeling building in his throat. The inky black that met his eyes seemed filled with lurking dangers. He moved a hand in front of his face and couldn’t even make where his fingers were. There was a noise behind him and Minho whirled around immediately. A pair of startling silver eyes met his with a gaze that seemed more affectionate. It sent a wave of calm and security over him and Minho couldn’t help but walk forward towards the eyes. His hands reached out and he felt his fingers curl over a strong shoulder, letting his fingers wander over the firm figure standing in the dark before him.

“You can’t love me Minho.” The pair of eyes spoke to him, voice seeming ageless as it rang through his ears. “You won’t live long if you do.”

Minho opened his mouth to reply when he felt two sharp pinpricks of pain explode from his neck. He let out a long scream and batted away as his assailant, turning quickly and meeting a pair of vicious red eyes. The pure hatred that poured from those eyes took a death hold on Minho’s heart and he felt like he was falling backwards again from that roof top. Falling into darkness this time. A darkness that wouldn’t let him go no matter how hard he tried to fight away.

“Minho are you listening to me…” Came Kibum’s annoyed voice through his day dream and Minho blinked a few times. His glazed eyes cleared immediately as he looked around the table. Kibum wasn’t the only one looking at him, his boyfriend Jay was giving him an odd look and Taemin had a playful smirk over his face. Minho didn’t understand the smirk until the feeling of a foot pressing higher against his leg came evident and the athlete let out a soft cough, scooting his chair back a little to escape the touch.

“You were saying Kibum?” Minho flashed a quick smile and turned down to start into the angel hair pasta Kibum had poured his heart and soul into. Kibum gave him a displeased expression and opened his mouth to repeat himself. Minho knew the elder boy liked the sound of his own voice more so getting him to say something over again wasn’t that hard. The dinner went on with Minho trying to avoid Taemin’s wandering foot and noticed that Jay had an odd look on his face. From all the boyfriend’s Kibum had paraded through Minho knew that look. This guy was secretly sending looks towards Taemin while Kibum tried to make easy conversation. Minho offered soft noises and small sentences to egg Kibum to keep talking. This was usually how conversations went along. Kibum talking and Minho supplying enough to keep the attention on Kibum without making him seem too into himself.

“Do you like sports Jay?” Minho offered when he saw Kibum was started to run out of topics that would keep Jay entertained. The Korean American looked up and gave a thankful smile, talking about basketball and American football, Minho supplying what he knew on the subjects. As the food diminished away Kibum stood and Minho shoot up with him, offering to help with the dishes. Kibum gave a knowing look as Taemin pouted softly and followed after Jay to sit in the living room and watch television.

“Still avoiding Taeminnie then?”Kibum said lightly, a soft smile playing over his features. Minho shot him a look and scrubbed at the dirty plates roughly, jaw set as he refused to answer the question. Minho’s silence was all the answer Kibum needed as he dried the dishes that were passed over and placed them in the rink. Kibum knew how Minho felt about Taemin’s obvious advancements and though he picked on him about it from time to time he didn’t like it any more than Minho did. Kibum was opening his mouth to say something else when Minho cut him off, falling into one of his odd spells of being talkative.

“I’ll talk to him about this when I’m ready to. He won’t believe me until I have some proof that I’m either straight and/or in a relationship. Even then he won’t stop. He’ll think he can win me over or something. The kid is obsessed with me Kibum.” Minho rubbed his neck as it gave a soft throb, rolling his shoulders and trying to get rid of the phantom feeling of the bite still lingering on his neck. His daydream and seemed all too real to him and it left a feeling of foreboding in his mind. Minho placed the sponge down and let the dirty water out from the sink. He turned and crossed his arms, leaning against the counter. “Have anything for dessert?”

Minho saw the look pass through Kibum’s eyes at the word and felt a shudder run through his body. It was obvious the diva had a far different idea of dessert in his mind. Even though he was more than a little mentally disturbed, Minho smiled and jerked his head towards the living room. “Go on. I’m going to run out and get something to eat. I’ll bring back ice cream for you.” Kibum gave a grateful smile and practically floated off towards the living room. Minho stood up and was moving to head to his room to grab his wallet when he felt the air around him change from light and airy to cold and filled with unspoken wrath. Minho furrowed his eyebrows and walked towards the living room, the sight meeting his eyes enough to make him want to back away before he was noticed and make a speedy exit from the apartment.

Jay had Taemin pinned under him against the couch, Taemin’s shirt bunched up around his arm pits and a noticeable bite mark darkening on his stomach. Taemin’s lips were red with abuse and Jay had a heated look on his face like he was about to defile Taemin on the couch whether Key was looking or not. Minho stepped forward and rested a hand on Kibum’s shoulder, walking forward and placing his darkest, heated gaze on Jay. “Get out. Now.” Jay looked like he was about to try to object but the look of promised pain in Minho’s large eyes was enough to keep him quiet as he stood and hurried towards the door, grabbing his jacket and slamming the door as he left. Minho turned his gaze onto Taemin and shook his head but the boy returned his look coolly and fixed his clothes, licking his red lips and looking away.

Minho turned and was about to offer to take Kibum out with him when he felt a pair of arms wrap around his waist as Kibum buried his face into the taller boy’s chest. The post breakup Kibum was already out and about, broken as his fantasies and dreams crumbled down around him. Minho sighed and hugged him tightly, walking him backwards to tuck Kibum in his room, curled around one of Minho’s pillows he stole and crying himself into a light nap. It was always hard on Minho to see this side of his best friend but it was good for Kibum to deal with heartbreak now and then.

“I’ll be back soon alright. I’ll just run to the store and come right back.” Minho gave a kind smile and tucked Kibum into his bed, pressing a rare kiss against his forehead as he left out. Taemin was still sitting on the couch, looking as if he was about to follow after Minho before he shrank back from the cold stare Minho placed on him. Minho wasn’t sure why Kibum kept up his relations with his cousin who seemed hell bent on ruining his life. He tugged on his hoodie and headed outside, taking the stairs down so he could have time to himself to clear his head. Taemin had been the dark hand behind most of Kibum’s failed relationships. It was the boy’s way of trying to persuade Minho to give into him. He made Kibum suffer because he knew Minho did all he could to keep the Kibum safe from that sort of thing. Minho had always taken up the mantle as Kibum’s knight in shining armor with the relationship status hanging over his head. Which worked for them both in its own way.

The first cold burst of wind that hit his face as he squinted his eyes and looked out at the lit campus. He was glad the lights were on, knowing he wouldn’t get far if he was greeted with the pure night. The walk to the nearby grocery store took longer than Minho remembered but he had to slug his way through three inches of snow and avoid falling on his ass when the sidewalk got slippery. The grocery store provided momentary relief as he bowed to the old lady manning the counter with a watchful eye. Minho made a beeline for the frozen dairy section and picked up a tub of strawberry ice cream, heading back up to the counter and taking out his wallet to pay. The lady ringed him up quickly and held out her hand. Minho and the woman had an odd sort of relationship. From the first time he stepped into the store they had never spoken two words to each other.

He bowed his head and politely refused the change with a wave of his hand, taking the bag and heading back outside. He shivered easily from the cold air swirling around his body, assaulting the tip of his nose and making him sneeze. His head felt a bit woozy from the sneeze and he shook his head, trying to figure out why he felt this way. He placed a hand out and moved to rest his back against the inside of the alley. Flashes of the daydream he had during the dinner came back to him in a flood and he didn’t notice the man walking up to him until he felt a hand on his shoulder and another yanking his hoodie down. Minho looked up and tried to push away the man before he saw the gleam of sharp white teeth pulling up into a sinister smile. The red eyes he looked into were the same as he saw in the recesses of his mind and a feeling of panic spread through his body. Minho had taken on challenges head on and could hold his own in a fight but the way his body paralyzed at the look the man put on him was something he hadn’t expected.

“You’re a strong one aren’t you?” the mysterious man said as he moved forward. Minho looked at his pale skin and the dark rings of circles around his eyes. Minho couldn’t voice his questions or even yell out for help as the man bit down into his neck, skin breaking easily as he felt his blood being pulled from his body. The man at his neck let out a low groan of ecstasy at the taste, Minho’s hands moving to try his hardest to push the man way. The body that met his hand was hard as rock and seemed to be unyielding to anything he tried. Dark spots started to appear in his vision as he felt the man pull away and let Minho sink down to sit against the hard, cold ground. “Not as strong as I thought.”

Minho watched the man walked off and couldn’t find it in himself to yell out for help. No one was out in the streets at this time and he was too far away from the grocery shop for the woman to hear him. He was alone and he would die from the cold stinging into his neck wounds and sending icy pain through his veins. Steps came towards him and Minho looked up into those silver eyes again. The face they belonged to surprised Minho as the stranger he had bumped into on campus crouched down next to him. He felt fingers colder than the air around him moving across the neck bite.

“I tried to warn you didn’t I?” The man’s voice spoke out quietly, sending that same wave of calm through Minho’s senses as he blacked out. The stranger caught his body before he fell and hit the ground, pulling him up to carry him in his arms. Looking down at the bag of ice cream still laying on the ground but the man ignored it, turning on his heel and heading to navigate his way through the maze of the alleyway. He felt rather than saw another presence walking behind him.

“Drop him Jinki. You can’t take in every human we feed on.” The man said, lips still red from Minho’s blood. Jinki turned and gaze the other vampire a level gaze, silver eyes flashing with unspoken challenge. “I am not of your clan, Seungho, so you have no say over me.” Jinki turned on his heel and started walking away. Seungho growled loudly and made a step to advance after the retreating man. He stopped when he saw the shadow of a man leaning against an alleyway, a shock of brown to blonde hair identifying the third vampire.

“Still his lap dog then Jonghyun?” Seungho spat out with as much venom as he could muster. The named vampire stepped forward and gave a cocky smile, golden eyes glittering with mirth as he turned and walked after Jinki. “Still after his love then Seungho?” Came his teasing remark which caused another growl to leave his bloodstained lips, turning and disappearing into the snowy night. In his mind he was already planning his revenge against the blonde vampire for the remark but he knew he’d never be able to go through with it. Because he was right and Seungho wouldn’t do anything to hurt his chances of bring Jinki back into his arms

“One day Jonghyun. One day you won’t have Jinki to hide behind.”
