Yeah neither do I. I think it must be some kind of experiment to see how much money the site creator can make off of advertisements on his site (since the way you get eggs to grow up is by people looking at their web page, and the pages have ads on them.)

I am absolutely fascinated by people's behavior with the eggs. Yes its fun to have them hatch and what not, and they are cute to look at, but people actually seem to get into fights over them.

So yeah, I don't exactly get it, but I am fascinated by the phenomenon.
